Section 144 imposed at II Chundrigar Rd

KARACHI: Sindh Home Secretary Arif Khan has issued a notification on Monday whereby Section 144 has been imposed at II Chundrigar Road for an indefinite period of time.

While confirming the imposition of the ban on the busiest thoroughfare of the city, Sindh Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman said that the aim behind it is to take precautionary measures to avert possible terrorism threats. However, he denied that the government or law enforcement agencies had received any intelligence reports about a possible terror attack on this road.

He also said that the second major aim was to protect the media persons, as this road is a media hub, adding that protest demonstrations on this road had become a routine and terrorists might target such places. Sources claimed that one of the reasons behind imposing Section 144 on the road was to remove the protesters from outside the MCB Tower.

As per the notification, no groups of people or vehicle parking would be allowed on this road, and no one would be allowed to rent any edifices without getting an NOC first.
