SC takes notice of baby’s kidnapping

HYDERABAD, Aug 20: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday took suo motu notice of kidnapping of a newly born baby from Shah Bhittai Hospital in Latifabad and directed the district and sessions judge to submit progress report on the case.

Judge Zafar Ahmed Sherwani ordered the investigation police to submit him progress report when the in-charge of investigation, Sobdar Leghari, appeared in court with parents of the kidnapped baby girl.

Mr Leghari informed the court that the police had arrested the watchman of the ward, Nasir, and the civil judge and judicial magistrate concerned had remanded him to police custody for three days.

Baby’s mother, Feroza, suspected a woman attendant of a patient who was staying in the same ward of kidnapping her baby and she said that an old woman, attendant of another patient, told her that she knew that woman and she was resident of Unit-12 of Latifabad, the official said.

But when he spoke to that old woman she retracted her statement and said she did not know the woman, Mr Leghari said, adding, that the incident took place when the mother had gone to toilet.

The judge directed the police official to submit daily progress report on the case, which was registered at Hussainabad police on the compliant of the baby’s father, Nadeem alias Bhoora.
