SC orders Gujranwala police to find two missing sisters
ISLAMABAD: A full bench of the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday ordered deputy inspector general (DIG), Gujranwala, to recover two missing sisters till March 17.
The bench, comprising Chief Justice (CJ) Abdul Hameed Dogar, Justice Ijazul Hassan and Justice Chaudhry Ejaz Yousaf, set the deadline during the hearing of a suo motu case of the disappearance of two sisters, Humaira and Sumaira, from Naushehra Virkan, Gujranwala. The case was initiated by the pre-PCO SC on the complaint of Aish Muhammad, father of the girls. The man accused ‘unidentified’ influential people of kidnapping her daughters on Nov 9, 2005.
Gujranwala DIG Khadim Hussain Bhatti told the court that five teams headed by senior police officers were formed from time to time but they failed to find out any clues regarding the whereabouts of missing sisters.
The teams, however, revealed that both the girls left their house by their free will and had been hiding at an unidentified place in the country. He said the Gujranwala police had submitted complete record of the case to DIG of Lahore Police Sardar Saeed Gul, who was now heading the investigation team.
The court rejected the progress report submitted by the Lahore DIG through Additional Advocate General of Punjab Qazi Muhammad Amin. It directed the DIG to investigate the case ‘properly and with honesty’ disregarding influence of all sorts.
The court also reproached the police for not producing the statements of three police inspectors Aamir Shaheen, Imran Chiddhar and Gohar and constable Shahid recorded by the police into the case.
