SC hears Geo Super petition on Thursday

RAWALPINDI: Geo Super will telecast all the matches of the ICC World Cup in the country on cable and satellite network.

With a view to ensure implementation of its exclusive rights to broadcast the ICC World Cup 2011, the Geo Network has filed a constitutional petition in the Supreme Courtof Pakistan. Senior Advocate Akram Sheikh has filed the petition, which has been fixed for hearing on Thursday.

It may be recalled that for some times Pemra and PTV had been confusing the situation by misguiding the public and advisers. None but the Geo Network’s company IMG enjoys exclusive rights to broadcast the World Cup matches all over the country including PTV.

It was IMG that had obtained the rights to broadcast the 2007 World Cup, which were carried through PTV under an agreement. But this time the Geo Network will carry the matches over Geo Super.

Through their constitutional petition the Geo Network has prayed before the apex court to stop PTV from creating confusion. The petition also requests that all channels except Geo Super should be stopped to broadcast the cricket World Cup.
