SC forms bench to hear petitions against new contempt law
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Thursday constituted a five-member special bench to take up 15 different petitions against the Contempt of Court Act 2012 on Monday.
The bench will be headed by the chief justice. Other members of the bench are Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain.
Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the government has decided to defend the new contempt of court law aggressively in the apex court. Sources said the government had contacted former PCO judges like Shabbar Raza Rizvi, Qalb-e-Hussain, Ahsan Bhoon and others in this regard. “Names of the lawyers have been sent to Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf for getting his approval,” they added. hasnaat malik
