Saleem Shahzad murder: panel to submit report in three weeks

ISLAMABAD: The Secretary of the commission investigating the murder case of journalist Saleem Shahzad has said that the commission has completed the inquiry and is now in the process of finalising its report which is expected to be submitted to the government within three weeks.

Taimur Asmat Usman said in a statement that the commission had tried its best to collect all relevant material and evidence.

The commission during the process recorded statements of or cross-examined Brig Zahid Mehmood Khan, Commander, Sector Headquarters (Central), Islamabad, who represented the ISI. Other ISI officials cross-examined or whose statements recorded were Rear Admiral Adnan Nazir, Brig Iftikhar Ali Khan and Commodore Khalid Pervaiz.

PFUJ president Pervaiz Shaukat, who represented the journalist community in the commission, submitted his report on Tuesday to the commission containing details of his recent meeting with the family of the late journalist in Karachi.

“We have been extremely careful and meticulous in ensuring that the evidence is collected from every possible source, covering all aspects,” Mr Shaukat said.
