SAFMA holds seminar in memory of Khalid Hasan

LAHORE: The South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) held a seminar in journalist Khalid Hasan’s memory where his friends, family and colleagues gathered to recall his memories.

Former BBC journalist Shahid Malik, a cousin of Khalid Hasan, said Khalid had an immensely humanistic, progressive and secular vision, a great love of literature and had a deep knowledge and understanding of history, principled stands and an acerbic sense of humour. He added that Khalid was openly critical of the hypocrisy and violence, not to mention dictatorship, of the Ziaul Haq years. Throughout this period, he remained in virtual self-exile, working first in London with the Third World Foundation and the Third World Media, and then with the newly established OPEC News Agency (OPECNA) in Vienna, Austria, for 10 years. Renowned Journalist Khalid Ahmad, Shahid Malik, Salman Shahid, Dr Farhat Abbas, Murtaza Solangi, Saleem Mirza and Khalid Hasan’s brother Masood Hasan also attended the seminar.
