Role of women in development highlighted
KARACHI – Former federal minister Barrister Shahida Jameel has termed inclusion of a large number of women in assemblies and local councils a great success of the government and hoped that they would play their due role in the progress of the country.
She was speaking at a recently held three-day long workshop on Role of women in development organised under the aegis of Municipal Training and Research Institute at its premises. Barrister Shahida said that the government had provided an opportunity to women to participate in the national affairs and it was hoped that they would come up to the expectations.
Speaking at the workshop, member city council and social worker, Advocate Rana Khan highlighted the problems of women of the society and said that the women were thankful to the President General Pervez Musharraf for giving them such a big representation in the assemblies and councils. Rana demanded of the government to withdraw all such laws, which deprive women of their due rights. Shireen Rahmatullah, Muhammad Afzal Arayen also spoke on the occasion.
