Role of Information Minister appreciated

FAISALABAD- Veteran journalist Mahtabuddin Nishat has expressed his deepest gratitude on behalf of the journalist community to Federal Minister for Information and Media Development Nisar A. Memon.

In a statement, he said that Federal Information Minister reacted expeditiously and came to rescue and defend the journalists, who were unnecessarily baton charged on April 14 by the local police.

He said that government and press relations were excellent but this incident brought bad name not only for the Musharraf’s government, but also created hatred among the journalist community all over the globe.

However, realising the gravity of situation, the information minister took a serious notice and ordered an immediate inquiry at the highest level. He said that the minister also personally contacted the injured journalists and conveyed his heart-felt pain and prayed for their early recovery.

Mahtabuddin Nishat, Chief reporter Daily Ghareeb further said that now the minister is visiting Faisalabad on April 19 to express his regrets with the journalists. He said that his visit will not only encourage the journalists but also restore the cordial press government relations.

Mahtab demanded immediate dismissal of the concerned police officers including Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Tasadduq Hussain Chaudhry, Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Arshad Dogar and DSP Ghazanfar Warraich.

He also thanked the journalists, newspaper owners, editors and journalists organisations who condemned the baton charge and expressed complete solidarity with their injured brethren.
