RLAK college bags all three top positions

KARACHI – The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) on Thursday declared the results of the Intermediate Part-II, Home Economics Group, Annual Examination 2009.

Rana Liaquat Ali Khan (RLAK) Govt College of Home Economics Karachi has once again proved its dominancy in Home Economics by fetching all three top positions. None of the candidates obtained A-One grade.

As per the results, Khadija d/o Feroz Faizullah, bearing Roll Number 202152 secured first position (78.5pc) with 942 marks out of total 1200, Mahim Sabir Ali d/o Sabir Ali Rehman (202167) got second position with (76.67pc) 936 marks and Saba Iqbal Advani d/o Muhammad Iqbal Advani (202339) secured third position with (76.25pc) 911 marks.

According to statistics, a total of 439 candidates got registered themselves for the examination out of which 432 appeared and 263 candidates have been declared successful with 60.87 pass percentage. Conversely, in the examination, a total of 19 candidates passed in A-grade, 67 in B-grade, 106 in C-grade, 67 in D-grade and only 4 candidates got E-grade.

Speaking at a ceremony held at the BIEK to honour the position holders, BIEK Chairman Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai congratulated all the position holders especially their parents and college teachers.

He said that the board was trying to curb the use of unfair means during the examinations. In this regard, BIEK is planning to write the candidates roll numbers on the question papers; this step may stop the cheating mafia from selling papers before the examination, he said.

“From the next academic year, blind students will have the facility of 45 extra minutes during their examinations; this measure is being taken to facilitate the students, using writers to solve their papers. However, the examination fees have also been waived for special students.
Science results, pre-engineering and pre-medical group, will be declared in August, while the results of commerce and arts faculties will be issued in September,” he added.

On the occasion several officials of the board were also present, while Director General Colleges Sindh, Dr Rafiq Siddiqui, announced that from July 25, 2009 the admission forms for Intermediate Part-I will be available.

RLAK COLLEGE SHORT OF FACILITIES

The position holders of the examinations, while talking to newsmen in the ceremony, said that the syllabus of home economics had become outdated and it should be updated.

They said, “Our college, Rana Liaquat Ali Khan (RLAK) Govt College, is really in short of basic facilities, causing immense problems for the students. The college is still deprived of gas that causes lot of problems for the students during science practicals. The college is also facing mismanagement.”

They also denounced terrorism in the country and said that extremism had become the leading problem of the country.
