Riaz’s plea against arrest warrants dismissed

Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench comprising Justice Ibad-ur-Rehman Lodhi and Justice Malik Shehzad Ahmed on Tuesday dismissed real estate tycoon Malik Riaz’s plea that he had filed against warrants for his arrest issued by an Anti-Corruption Court in connection with a land case.

Through his application, he prayed the court that Anti-Corruption Court had no authority to issue warrants for his arrest following a legal battle between the Anti-Corruption (AC) Establishment Rawalpindi and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) over which agency would investigate the alleged land grabbing case. He further said the issue of jurisdiction investigation agencies needed to be referred to the Supreme Court of Pakistan as the matters involved the federal and provincial government as well.

The bench remarked that in the application submitted by AC Establishment Rawalpindi against the NAB for trying to take over the investigation of the case of purchase of 1401 kanal land on forged document, the LHC also asked both the investigating agencies not to take any action till the disposal of petition. However, the LHC did not stop Anti-Corruption Court from hearing the case. Riaz has filed his application through Dr Basit Advocate
