‘Responsibility of media to support govt’s measures to curb terrorism’

KARACHI: Sindh Information Secretary Dr Zulfiqar Ali Shalwani has urged the print and electronic media to refrain from printing, publishing and sending on air such things which might provoke hatred or cause conflicts in different sects in order to suppress terrorism. He said this while presiding over a meeting of provincial action plan committee’s sub-committee on media at his office on Thursday. The secretary said it was the responsibility of all print and electronic media to support the measures taken by the government to curb terrorism in the country. The participants of the meeting suggested that to promote brotherhood, love and affection, awareness among the masses should be created against terrorism through mobile SMS service, cable TV network. He said that efforts against terrorism should be made in this regard through articles and columns in newspapers. The meeting was attended by PID Director General Ashiq Hussain Sheikh, Sayed Sikandar Ali from PEMRA, Major Waheed Bukhari from ISPR, Ayaz Alam from Home Department, Major Sibtain from Rangers and others.
