Rehman Malik declared elected unopposed as senator

KARACHI: Provincial Election Commission Sindh has declared that Rehman Malik has been elected unopposed as senator from Sindh.

The provincial election commissioner Sono Khan announced that after the scrutiny of the nomination paper of only candidate as valid Rehman Malik was elected unopposed as senator. He said no other candidate filed nomination nor objection was received against the candidature of Rehman Malik and he issued the official notification that Rehman Malik elected unopposed as senator from Sindh.

Senior Adviser to the Prime Minister for Interior Rehman Malik was present during the scrutiny of his nomination paper on Monday. The MQM leaders Raza Haroon and others were also present on the occasion along with the PPP leaders. They congratulated Rehman Malik.

Rehman Malik resigned from senate seat in first week of July and challenged the PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif who blamed that the purpose of the dual nationality bill was to save the seat of Rehman Malik.

After declared officially as Senator unopposed Rehman Malik told media that his victory in fact the victory of President Asif Ali Zardari and his reconciliation policy and claimed that this reconciliation would continue in next government as the PPP and its allies would elect again in coming election.

He also thanked to the MQM chief Altaf Hussain and PML-Likeminded group leader Arbab Ghulam Rahim for supporting him. He said all efforts of the opposition and anti-democratic forces were failed to derail the democratic system as the all allies are still united and serving the country.

He claimed that hundreds of criminals who involved in target killing have been arrested while law enforcement agencies conducting raids to arrest remaining. He said government would not tolerate extortion and orders were also issued to curb this trend without any discrimination.

Later Senator Rehman Malik was called on Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and thanked to him for nominating as party candidate and supporting. Shah congratulated Malik for his victory second time. Sources said that Rehman Malik would again be inducted in the cabinet of Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf as federal minister.
