Recovery of journalist’s son sought

ISLAMABAD: The journalists’ community on Thursday demanded recovery of the kidnapped son of a senior jounalist who has been missing for the last two days.

They were protesting outside the National Press Club (NPC) against the kidnapping of Hassan Sharjeel, the son of a news agency’s editor.

Addressing on the occasion the NPC President Afzal Butt said that on the one hand the journalist fraternity was facing threats from terrorist while on the other their children were being kidnapped. He said the incidents showed that the government has utterly failed to protect journalists and their families, he added.

“If anything happened to the kidnapee, the government will be responsible,” he added. The NPC Secretary Asim Qadeer Rana said Federal Interior Minister Rahman A Malik had promised to recover the victim.

Hassan Sharjeel has been missing since the morning of January 5 and in this regard his father Shakeel Turabi lodged a complaint with Aabpara police station.

Mr Turabi told Dawn that his son a 17-year-old FSC part one student was dropped by his driver at Islamabad College for Boys G-6/3 at around 7:45am on January 5.
