‘Rawal Lake water fit for human consumption’

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday disposed of a suo moto case pertaining to contamination of Rawal Lake water after the concerned authorities confirmed that the lake water is fit for human consumption and there was no contamination.

A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, heard suo moto case regarding contaminated water of Rawal Lake.During the hearing, Special Secretary Cabinet Division Shahidullah Baig, the DG Environment Protect Agency and WASA managing director confirmed to the apex court that water from Rawal Lake for residents of city and cantonment areas of Rawalpindi is clean and free from contamination.

It was in June last year that the SC concluded the hearings in the case after the environment agencies of the federal government and Punjab government certified that flow of waste into the lake had been checked.
