Rapist jailed for 10 years
KARACHI: A sessions court on Friday sentenced a man to 10 years imprisonment in a rape case. The court found Ibrahim Khalil guilty of subjecting a woman to a sexual assault within the remit of the Gulberg police station in 2008.
Additional District and Sessions Judge (central) Mohammad Azeem handed down the sentence after recording evidence of witnesses and final arguments from both sides.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs50,000 on the convict and in case of non-payment, he would have to undergo an additional six-month imprisonment.
The court in its verdict ruled that the victim had testified against the accused in the present case and other prosecution witnesses had also supported her version.
The testimonies of the witnesses had also corroborated the medical and other documentary evidence, which further strengthened the case of the prosecution, it added.
The prosecution was successful in bringing the charge against the accused at home beyond a shadow of a doubt by placing ample evidence in court, the verdict concluded.
A case (FIR 325/2008) was registered against the accused under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Pakistan Penal Code on a compliant of the victim at the Gulberg police station.
The accused had been enlarged on bail. He was present in the courtroom on Friday and was taken into custody following the pronouncement of the verdict and remanded to prison along with his conviction warrant to serve out the sentence.
