Rape victim fails to identify culprit a PMA announces black day on March 1

QUETTA,February 28,2005:The Sui rape victim could not identify any of the suspects at an identification parade in the presence a judicial magistrate at Hub on Sunday. The Inspector General Police, Balochistan, Chaudhry Yaqub, said 11 suspects, including Captain Hammad of the Defence Security Services (DSS), were presented at the identification parade.
The IG said Captain Hanimad and other suspects were present at the identification parade, but the rape victim could not identify any of the suspects in the line-up.
He said since the rape victim was not in a position to travel to Sui or Quetta, the identification parade was arranged at Hub in the presence of Judicial Magistrate Mohanuned Ali Kakar.
The rape victim came to Hub with her parents and relations. Strict security measures were in place for the identification parade. ‘Re lady doctor was subjected to rape at a hospital in Sui gas field on Jan 3. DSS’s Captain Hammad was declared the main suspect. Local tribal people protested against the rape and demanded that the culprit be punished according to the law.
Unidentified people had attacked the Sui as field area and 9 targeted DSS personnel. At least eight people were killed and about 30 injured in exchange of fire between protesters and security forces.President Pervez Musharraf has said Captain Hammad is not involved in the rape case.
The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has announced that it would observe a black day all over the country on March 1 to ‘express solidarity with Dr Shazia, Online reported on Sunday.
Women doctors in all govern merit and private hospitals will wear black dupattas while the men will wear black bands on their arms in protest. The announcement was made by PN1A officials Dr Omar Ayub, pres PMA, Dr Arshid Rana, Akbar Khalil and Dr Khizar Hayat, at a press conference at the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Press Club.
Dr Omar Ayub expressed regret that the culprits had not been captured despite the fact that a First Investigation Report had been registered. People involved in de stroyins,
the evidence of the incident should be arrested under section 201 of the constitution of Pakistan, he said.
He urged the government to provide Rs 20 million as financial assistance to Dr Shazia and a job in any hospital in Islamabad. The PMA office bearers announced that they would not support sending her abroad at least till the culprits were brought to justice. The judicial commisÂsion should finalise its report within 40 days and make it pubÂlie, they demanded.
Expressing dismay over the attitude of Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim, they said it was a matter of concern that he had not even visited the doctor or asked how she was.
