Rape victim escapes from abductors

KARACHI, Aug 23: A 19-year-old girl, abducted from Karachi nine months ago and taken to Dera Ghazi Khan, managed to escape from captivity during which she was allegedly raped by four of her abductors.

Bin Qasim/Malir SSP Aleem Jafri told Dawn that he had received an application on Thursday by the complainant narrating her ordeal, adding that he had forwarded the complaint to the relevant SHO for the registration of a case so that further investigation could take place.

According to the application, the girl was kidnapped in December 2006 by four persons who took her to Dera Ghazi Khan and during the period of her captivity she was subjected to repeated sexual abuse.

The complainant in her application also identified the four accused as Akmal (the ringleader), Ashraf, Akbar and Munnawar.

Following the registration of an FIR 279/2007 at the Shah Latif police station, the girl was taken for a medical examination at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre on Thursday evening.

However, her examination could not be carried out and she was asked to report to the hospital on Friday morning.
