Rape case: constable confesses to crime

SUKKUR: A policeman accused of subjecting a 14-year-old girl to sexual assault has confessed to the crime.

Head Munshi Irfan of Ubauro police said that according to an FIR registered on the complaint of the girl’s father, police constable Khadim Hussain Mochi had assaulted her on Saturday in a sugarcane filed. He escaped while she was unconscious.

The father told reporters that he and his wife had taken the girl to the police station to register the FIR but police insisted on a medical report.

Police issued a letter for the taluka hospital for a medical check-up, but the Medical Superintendent Ahmed Ali Khan advised them to go to Daharki or Mirpur Mathelo hospital because there was no woman doctor in the Ubauro hospital.

In the hospitals in Daharki and Mirpur Mathelo, the parents faced the same problem and the medical check-up could not be carried out.

When they went to the Civil Hospital in Ghotki they were told that all women doctors were on leave. They accused the hospital staff of misbehaving with them.

This led to a demonstration by hundreds of people outside the press club in Ubauro on Sunday in protest against doctors of Ubauro, Mirpur Mathelo, Daharki and Ghotki hospitals.

The check-up was conducted on Sunday after reports of the incident appeared on TV channels. Later, the accused was arrested and, according to the Ubauro police station’s head munshi, he confessed to the crime.
