Rally against blasphemous caricatures on March 2

KARACHI (February 27 2008): Speakers at the All Parties Conference (APC) have demanded United Nations to pass a declaration that blasphemy of the religious leaders and the prophets a crime against humanity. The APC has also announced to organise a rally on March 2 from Guru Mandir to Sea Breeze Plaza against the publishing of the blasphemous caricatures of Prophet (Peace be upon Him) in Danish newspapers.

The speakers urged the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) and the rulers of the Muslim countries to play their role as per wishes of the Ummah and demanded for filing a case against Denmark in the International Court of Justice on the issue.

The APC was organised by the Jamaat-i-Islami Karachi here on Tuesday. The JI Naib Amir and veteran politician Professor Ghafoor Ahmed presided over the conference.

In his keynote address, Ghafoor severely criticised the caretaker government over its negligence from the issue and said that only a true democratic government could represent the wishes of the nation. Rashid Rabbani of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Mir Nawaz Khan Marwat of Pakistan Muslim League (PML), Muhammad Amin Khatak of ANP, Siddique Rathor of JUI-Pak, Muhammad Hussain Mehnti of JI Karachi also addressed the conference.
