Rally against attack on newspaper

MULTAN, MARCH 12: Members of the Multan Press Club staged a demonstration on Friday afternoon against the attack on a local Urdu daily, “Sang-i-Meel”, and ransacking of its offices by a dozen people.

The protest meeting was addressed by MPC members demanded immediate arrest of the attackers and institution of a case against them.

A dozen attackers entered the newspaper offices at 11 p.m. on Thursday, manhandled the staff, damaged the furniture and took away a fax machine.

The editor of the daily, Imtiaz Roohani, alleged that attackers reached the newspaper office in Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) vehicles. ‘

The vice-chancellor of the university had recently got a case registered against the reporter, editor and publisher of the daily under sections 500 and 506 PPC for publishing a news item against him.
