Qaim, Marri grieved: Senior journalist Irshad Gulabani passes away

KARACHI: Senior journalist, Irshad Gulabani, passed away on Saturday afternoon at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT). He was 48.

He was admitted there due to pain in kidney. Doctors had conducted an operation of his one kidney few days back. According to Dr Adeeb Rizvi, cancer had spread to his lungs and liver. Deceased left behind a widow and three sons.

A large number of journalists reached SIUT after knowing the sad news. Dr Rizvi was also among those who had reached the spot. He also participated in shifting of the body from the hospital to the ambulance.

Gulabani’s body was shifted to Hyderabad, his native town, where he was laid to rest at Ibrahim Shah Bukhari Graveyard. Gulabani spent over 20 years in journalism. He mostly remained associated with a Sindhi language daily, Kawish. During his student life, he was also an active member of Democratic Students Federation. He was also senior member of Karachi Press Club and Karachi Union of Journalists.

Provincial General Secretary PPP Taj Haider, Senator Saeed Ghani, PPP leaders Habib Junedi, Najmi Alam, Latif Mughal and others have expressed deep sorrow and grief over his demise.

Almost all press clubs of Sindh have announced to observe three-day mourning over the demise of Gulabani.

Agenceis add: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has expressed sorrow and grief over the demise of senior journalist, Irshad Gulabani, who passed away here on Saturday. The chief minister in a condolence message also lauded the journalistic contributions of the deceased.

Shah said that Gulabani always performed his duty ably and in a positive and constructive manner. “Gulabani was a duty-conscious, principled and committed journalist.”

The chief minister also prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage and fortitude to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.

Special Assistants to Chief Minister, Rashid Rabbani and Waqar Mehdi, and Press Secretary Allah Bachiao Memon have also condoled the demise of Gulabani.

Meanwhile, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) MNA Ms Shazia Marri has expressed sorrow and grief over the death of senior journalist Irshad Gulabani. Marri in a condolence message prayed to the Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage and fortitude to the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude.
