Punjab government to set up four new universities for women
LAHORE: Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) Chairman Raja Anwar announced that the Punjab government would set up four new universities for women in the districts of Faisalabad, Sialkot, Multan and Bahawalpur to provide state-of-the-art educational and research facilities to female students.
A sum of Rs 1.5 billion has been earmarked for this purpose in the current budget, he said.
He said this while addressing a ten-member women delegation of government teachers who called on him at his office on Sunday. While talking to the delegation, Anwar told them about the various educational initiatives of the Punjab government and maintained that the government’s first priority was to promote education across the province. He informed that a total of Rs 13 billion was being spent on various welfare projects aimed at women empowerment. “It is expected that these projects would strengthen women and they will be able to play their due role in society,” he said. Anwar urged the teachers to give special attention to the aspect of character building of the students so that Pakistan could be led by educated and true leadership which could improve the national image of Pakistan in the comity of nations with their dedication and hardwork. The delegation of teachers was headed by Salma Ahmad.
