PTV Quetta workers be regularized, demands JWP

QUETTA, March 13: The Jamhoori Watan Party has demanded regularization of the PTV employees from Balochistan working on daily wages.

JWP central secretary information Senator Amanullah Kanrani said here on Friday that the PTV Quetta had recruited 28 local engineers and other staff in December 1999.

The high-ups of the PTV Islamabad had recognized their work and promised to regularize their services on vacant seats, he said. But the promise had yet to be honoured, he added.

Senator Kanrani said the Balochistan assembly adopted a resolution on June 30, 2003, demanding regular jobs for all those employees working in PTV and other federal departments on daily basis.

The general manger PTV Quetta, he said, had also sent recommendation to the headquarters for workers’ regularization.

The senator said Chaudhary Shujjat Hussain during his brief tenure as prime minister had confirmed 4,400 PTCL employees and asked other departments and corporations to follow the suit.

He deplored the attitude of the PTV high authorities and head of other institution for not implementing the directives of the then prime minister

The JWP leader quoted a verdict of the apex court that under the constitution no one could be employed on temporary basis for indefinite period. The Pakistan Television Corporation and other institutions were violating the constitution by not implementing the verdict, he added.
