PTV, BBC to have substantive cooperation, says Mushahid

ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Mushahid Hussain Sayed on Thursday expressed the confidence that PTV and BBC World Television would develop a solid and substantive cooperation in both professional and technical fields.

The minister stated this at a meeting with a high-level BBC team headed by its managing director Patrick Cross.

The Minister referred to economic and cultural development of Pakistan and said BBC will find a lot of areas of interest for coverage in the country. Pakistan, he said, has a great tourism potential and a rich cultural heritage which, being one of the most ancient in the world hold great attraction for visitors.

Mushahid informed the BBC team that Year 2001 has been declared ‘a Visit Pakistan Year’, an the year 2002 will be Mountain by UN, thus providing a opportunity for projection of country potential.

Pakistan, he said, has the largest number of highest peaks of the world. The minister hoped that BBC will also present Pakistan’s point of view, while covering events on various issues of South Asia .

Both PTV and BBC he said, have a great scope of technical and professional cooperation in areas including computer graphics, editing and engineering.

He said PTV has been a success story under the present government and now it has broadened its base both culturally and commercially. PTV has earned credibility in the world.

Mushahid said the world media should project true image of Islamic and not impart, religious coloring while reporting on various events

Patrick Cross said BBC looks forward to develop Cupertino with PTV for mutual benefits. BBC, he said, plans to widen its base in the region.
