PTCL management accused of harassing employees

President National Labour Foundation, Rafique Ahmad, has said that the management of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) is using different tactics to harass the employees and now the news report of the proposed downsizing is no less than a bombshell to the employees.

In a press release issued on Thursday, he said before its privatisation, the PTCL was a profit-making entity and the employees were serving in it without any fear but after its privatisation, at a first instance, the management fired a great number of contractual employees and daily-wagers.

He said now the process of retrenching regular employees of the organisation was under contemplation which would render thousands of people jobless.

Rafique said to improve the performance of any organisation, training should be given to enhance the technical skills of the employees, but on the contrary, the current management of the PTCL is stuck with a notion that the organisation would flourish after downsizing of the employees, which, he said, is an unwise step and reflective of incompetence on the part of the management.
