Protest against minister’s remark: Journalists walk out of Sindh PA session

KARACHI: Journalists on Saturday staged a token walk-out from Sindh Assembly in protest against provincial Finance Minister Murad Ali Shah’s remarks who, without confirmation, raised his figures towards the press gallery blaming the reporters for disturbing the proceedings of the house by mobile phone ringing.

The proceedings came to a halt when someone’s mobile phone started ringing in the house, whose magnetic waves were caught by the nearby fixed microphone, resulting in loudspeaker’s reverberation, disturbing the business of the house.

Newsmen expressed resentment over the minister’s attitude and strongly objected to his remarks saying that the press gallery had no microphones fixed to catch any sort of sound, even of a mobile phone. Later, on the apology of Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, the newsmen ended their protest. It may be mentioned here that the Speaker of Sindh Assembly has restricted the use of cell phone inside the house, and asked every member, newsman, and visitor to keep their phone powered off during the proceedings to avoid disturbances.
