Protest against attack on newsman’s son

SUKKUR: A complete strike was observed and a sit-in was staged in Ghotki on the National Highway on Monday in protest against an armed attack on an office of a newspaper agent, leading to injuries to son of a journalist.

Riding a motorcycle, three armed men raided the office of a newspaper agent and opened indiscriminate fire. As a result of firing Atif Hussain Channa, son of journalists Ramzan Channa, was injured.

He was taken to a local hospital and later shifted to Rahim Yar Khan hospital due to critical condition.

Following the incident, all the main bazaars and shopping centres were closed. Journalists, along with the activists of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaaz, Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F) and Pakistan People’s Party took out a procession.

Shouting slogans against the police, they marched on main roads of the city and converged on the highway, where they staged a sit-in for two hours and suspended vehicular traffic.
