Probe team declares Shomaila guilty

By Zulqernain Tahir

Lahore: Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) legislator Shomaila Rana is certain to lose her Punjab Assembly membership as party’s two-member committee has declared her ‘guilty’ of the charges levelled against her in a credit cards theft case.

The committee comprising chief minister’s adviser Senator Pervaiz Rashid and MNA Saad Rafiq submitted its findings to Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday.

It concluded that Ms Rana had stolen credit cards and recommended that ‘strict’ action should be taken against her.“Ms Rana could present nothing in her defence while appearing before the committee, making us believe that she has committed the crime,” Pervaiz Rashid told Dawn.

“We have asked her to resign as she has no other option,” he said.

Ms Rana has also been asked not to run away from pursuing her case. “We have advised her not to go in hiding and face the case bravely,” Rashid said.

According to the FIR, MPA Shomaila Rana stole two credit cards from the purse of Zaira Malik at a fitness club in Gulberg and did shopping worth Rs80,000 by using them on July 7.

Model Town investigation SP Zeeshan Asghar told Dawn that no progress had been made in the case so far. “Ms Rana is probably not in Lahore as police raided her Nadarabad house a couple of times,” he added.
