Prime Minister urges Information Technology ministry to establish Universal Tele Centers

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has urged the officials of the Ministry of Information Technology to further improve their efficiency so that the objectives and task assigned to the Ministry can be achieved at the earliest.

Chairing a meeting of the Ministry of Information Technology to review the Universal Tele Centers (UTC) programme at PM House, the premier directed that UTC centres should be established where people are deprived of information technology so that they can benefit from modern technology. He was informed that a UTC can be established within a fortnight.

“The establishment of each UTC will create jobs for 50 people”, secretary apprised the PM. He was apprised that 95% of the area in Balochistan has been provided broadband connectivity. PM directed that three UTCs should be established in Balochistan on top priority.

Secretary Ministry of Information Tele Center would have 10 personal computers/laptops with a broadband connection of 2MB and a scanner and a printer. The operator would be trained and the UTC would be fully furnished.
