Press asked to promote tourism

MINGORA — A senior government functionary said on July 15 that newsmen would be provided proper training to enhance their skills.

He said they would also be give chances of foreign tours on the basis of their capabilities.

Addressing Swat Press Club members, Muhammad Afzal Khan, additional secretary of information, NWFP, said efforts would be made to provide annual grants to press club of Swat, Bannu, D. I. Khan and Abbotabad.

He urged newsmen to focus on full coverage of local issues, highlighting in particular the tourism potential of their areas.

He said the government believed in the freedom of press and was taking steps for the welfare of journalists, especially for implementation of the Seventh Wage Board Award.

During his three-day visit to the Malakand division, he visited all the districts, and also met newsmen at the local offices of newspapers.
