President confers awards on eight journalists
ISLAMABAD: Pervaiz Shaukat, president of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), is among the eight journalists who have been conferred civil awards by the president on the occasion of the Independence Day.
According to a press release, the other journalists who got awards include Azhar Abbas, Hamid Mir, Jugnoo Mohsin, Sikandar Hameed Lodhi, Qazi Aslam, Muhammad Aslam Khan and Syed Mir Mehdi Shah Mehdi (Posthumous).
The investiture ceremony for conferring the awards, given on the advice of the prime minister for excellence in the field of journalism, will take place on the next Pakistan Day on March 23, 2013.Pervaiz Shaukat is the first PFUJ president who has been awarded Tamgha-i-Imtiaz in recognition of his services for the independence of journalism.
