President asks Sindh Bank to allocate 40 percent jobs to women
KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday advised the management of Sindh Bank to consider allocating 40 percent of jobs to women in the province. He gave this advice during a briefing on the newly set up of the Sindh Bank and its operations given by its President and Chief Executive Officer Bilal Shaikh at Bilawal House here.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Provincial Finance Minister Murad Ali Shah and senior officers of the federal and provincial governments also attended the briefing. The briefing was informed that the Sindh Bank would operate on similar lines as the Bank of Punjab and the Bank of Khyber in the provinces of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa respectively.
The Banks were mandated to finance clientele in these respective provinces particularly relating to small and medium size entrepreneurs. Spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar said that the President advised the bank management to consider allocating 40 percent of jobs to women in the Sindh Bank.
He said that the first branch of the Sindh Bank with head office in Karachi was inaugurated in Naudero by the President last month. President Zardari spent a busy day on Saturday during which he was briefed on various developmental projects and also held meetings. Farhatullah Babar said that a delegation of the Supreme Court Bar Association led by its President Asma Jehangir also called on President Asif Ali Zardari at the Bilawal House Karachi and discussed with him issues relating to the Bar.
The President assured the SCBA delegation that he would forward the issues raised by them to the government for favourable consideration. Federal Law Minister Babar Awan was also present in the meeting. In another presentation, the President was given briefing on the energy requirements for industrial estates in the Sindh province.
The briefing was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Federal Water and Power Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, Law Minister Babar Awan, provincial ministers, federal and provincial government officials. The President directed that a comprehensive plan be prepared for extraction of oil and gas from abandoned wells as well as for setting up captive power plants for selected industrial zones and areas.
He said that captive power plants were needed to reduce transmission losses. The President also directed that the proposal on reactivating abandoned well and captive power plants be finalised within six weeks, he added. The Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Shahid Kardar also called on the President, the spokesperson said.
