PPP removes Sajida from city headship

LAHORE: PPP women’s wing chief Faryal Talpur has finally removed ‘die hard’ party activist Sajida Mir from the Lahore chapter headship.

Surprisingly, no action has been taken against the other MPA, Fauzia Behram, who was involved in a scuffle with Ms Mir in the Punjab Assembly on June 14.

Ms Behram did not bother to turn up while Ms Mir refused to resign as MPA when both of them were summoned by the party women’s wing chief to explain their position.

PPP Punjab women’s wing president Belum Hasnain said Ms Mir had been removed on the desire of Ms Talpur, and Faiza Malik had been appointed acting president of the Lahore (PPP women’s wing).

Earlier, Ms Mir was removed from the standing committee chairpersonship on health after she participated in a public meeting of Naheed Khan in Lahore.

“Why only workers are targeted in the name of tarnishing the party image. There are several others who are accused of corruption and other party violations, but no action is taken against them”, asked a senior party worker.

He said the removal of Sajida Mir from the party office would not give a good message rather it would create despondency among workers.

Ms Mir told Dawn the decision had saddened her, but she would continue to serve the party interests. She said she was a loyal party worker and would remain so.

About her meeting with Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in the Punjab Assembly, she said she requested him to get released the frozen development funds of her constituency.
