PPF welcomes the restoration of internet access in the two regions of Cameroon

Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) in a letter to Paul Biya, President Republic of Cameroon welcomes the restoration of internet connectivity in the North-west and South-west regions of Cameroon after more than three months of shutdown.

PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in his letter welcomed the restoration of internet access in the two regions. PPF urged the government to end the trend of interference, restrictions on free speech and commit to promoting and protecting digital rights as well as release those who have been detained in relation with the protests.

According to Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Cameroonian government shutdown internet access in the two predominately Anglophone regions, where protest erupted against the government of Cameroon on the imposition, the use of French Language.

On April 20, 2017, Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, restored internet connection in the two regions after more than three months of network disruption, under the orders of the President of Cameroon.

Since protests erupted in November 2016, strangled the freedom of expression have been repressed by the Cameroonian government, four protesters have been killed and several others have been arbitrarily arrested and detained.
