Poll-rigging: FIR registered against 70 people

SUKKUR: Following allegations of attacking a polling station, taking the polling staff hostage and stamping ballot papers of specific candidate, the Thull police on Saturday have registered a case against 70 people.

According to details, Assistant Presiding Officer Mohammad Pannah Channa polling station, Mir Hassan Lashari has registered an FIR No. 33/2008 under sections 357, 171F, 342, 353, 468, 50612, 148 and 149 PPC, against 70 people including, SDO Roads Thull Abdul Majeed Panhyar, Manager Zarai Taraqiyati Bank Shafi Mohammad Sarki, Majid Sarki, Hazoor Bux Channa, Khamiso Channa and others.

In his FIR the complainant stated that on February 18, 70 people led by the above named people raided the polling station, maltreated the polling staff and stamped ballot papers in favour of PML-Q’s Dr Suhrab Sarki, who was contesting election for PS-15 Thull against PPPP’s Mir. Hassan Khoso.

He further stated, that they were kept in illegal detention for a whole night and released on the morning of February 19, after getting their signatures on result sheets. On contact, the SHo Thull Asad Nabi Khichi confirming the registration of FIR told this scribe that no arrest has been made as yet.
