Police told to find missing woman and girl

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Khwaja Muhammad Sharif on Tuesday directed Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials to assist the family of an abducted woman in determining whether she had been removed from the country.

He issued these directions while hearing a suo motu notice into the abduction of Amina Bibi, resident of Vehari, who was allegedly kidnapped by a local landlord, Mahmood Akbar, in January 2009.

Justice Sharif further directed Multan CCPO Saud Aziz to appear before the court on June 10 to apprise the court of progress in the matter.

Appearing before the court on Tuesday, the Vehari district police officer (DPO) said three persons involved in the Amina Bibi’s disappearance, namely Imdad Husain, Sajida Bibi and Nazir Ahmad, had been found with the first two on interim bail before granted by one judge while the latter’s bail hearing was due for Tuesday before another judge.

The chief justice directed the Vehari district and sessions judge to consolidate the bail petitions and decide upon the matter before May 29.

The DPO added that the police had contacted FIA officials and ruled out the possibility that Mahmood Akhtar had fled with Amina from Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore though reports from other airports were not available.

Justice Sharif took notice of an application filed by Amina’s uncle Taj Muhammad. The chief justice also directed the police to make all efforts to arrest Akhtar and recover Amina.
