Police thrash journalists

RAWALPINDI:In various incidents Monday, police thrashed and manhandled journalists while they were performing their professional duties during arrival of former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leader Mina Nawaz Sharif from exile.

The journalists, covering the moments of arresting and deporting of the former Prime Minister, were beaten up and manhandled by the security forces who snatched their camera and other equipment belonging to a private TV channel in the premises of Islamabad Airport.

The media persons were also barred at various points by Punjab police and personnels of the elite forces who were coming for the coverage of Mian Nawaz Sharif’s arrival from exile.

Meanwhile, Islamabad police on the occasion of arresting PML-N leaders also manhandled photojournalists who were covering the event.

The journalist community has strongly condemned the manhandling of their colleagues by security forces.
