Police accused of changing rape FIR

JHANG, Aug 21: Sadar police have allegedly changed the contents of an application seeking registration of a rape case to exclude the name of a colleague’s brother from the first information report (FIR).

Ghulam Farid of Chak 475/GB Saidwala complained to the local office of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan that five people raped his daughter. He alleged that Hafizur Rehman, brother of district police officer employee Habibur Rehman, was among the rapists. He said that he filed an application with the Sadar police station house officer (SHO) for the registration of a rape case. He said the SHO assured him of registration of a case and asked him to get a copy of the FIR the next day. He said that Hafizur Rehman’s name was missing and contents of his application were changed when he got a copy of the FIR the next day. He said that he asked the SHO to correct it, but he did not.

Farid alleged that police had not even arrested the accused nominated in the changed FIR after six days of registration of the case. The SHO claimed that police had registered the FIR according to Farid’s complaint.
