PML-N women activists manhandle officer

KASUR: A woman officer suffered the wrath of women activists of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) on Wednesday when she refused their ‘orders’ to appoint a daily wager, Dawn learnt from police and district officials.

B-Division police registered a case against 10 people, including six women, for manhandling Additional District Collector (ADC) Mussarat Jabeen and ransacking her office. All accused are PML-N workers, including former UC councillor and district office bearer of the PML-N Safia Saeed.

Ms Jabeen told Dawn PML-N workers Ms Saeed, Mukhtaran Bibi, Zareena Bibi, Kausar Bibi, alias Niki, Fareeda Shahzadi, and Tahira Bibi arrived at her office and asked her to appoint their favourite as daily wager in the Kausur Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA).

She says when she referred application her subordinate, the workers got it as insult and manhandled her. She said she ran to the district coordination officer (DCO) to take cover. The enraged workers ransacked her officer and chased her in the DCO office. No women worker was available for comment.

Learning about the agitation of the workers, party bigwigs like MNAs Sheikh Waseem, Rao Mazhar and Rana Ishaq, and MPAs Aneela Akhtar and Shagufta Sheikh also arrived at the DCO office and tried to bury the matter.

When TMA and revenue officials learnt about the humiliation of their officer, they struck and chanted slogans against PML-N leaders. They took out a protest rally and staged a sit-in outside the DCO office.

When PML-N workers were leaving the DCO office, scores of TMA women sanitary workers thrashed Ms Saeed and Ms Kausar.

B-Division police registered a case under several sections of the Pakistan Penal Code against PML-N workers.

Ms Jabeen said the way women activists had treated her showed they had planned to manhandle her.

Ms Jabeen is a BS-18 DMG officer.
