PM orders to restore Geo telecasts

ISLAMABAD: Taking serious notice of Geo telecasts suspension, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has asked the federal information and broadcasting minister to take immediate action to normalise the situation.

Under the directives of the prime minister, the Pemra issued show-cause notices to four Karachi based cable service providers to explain the reasons and circumstances in which the Geo broadcast was stopped.

Well placed sources told The News here on Tuesday evening that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani also directed that action should be taken in the light of the explanation offered by the cable services provider against the responsible.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani is disturbed about the incidents taking place in Karachi and different parts of the country in which the Geo, Jang and The News have been targeted by certain elements.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has shown his disapproval to the activities and asked the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira to intervene and ensure that the normalcy must be restored as soon as possible and such situation must not reoccur.

The sources indicated that the Geo broadcast would be restored without any further delay since the prime minister had also asked for the comp1iance report. He has asked the authorities concerned that no action must further allowed that could vitiate the atmosphere.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani is of the view that the catastrophic situation prevailing in the country demands complete cohesion among various sections of the society and media freedom had throughout been hallmark of the Pakistan People’s Party.
