PM orders probe into PTV’s dismal performance
Rana Ghulam Qadir
ISLAMABAD: Expressing annoyance over the unsatisfactory performance of the state-run TV channel, Pakistan Television (PTV), Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani has ordered Information and Broadcasting Secretary Taimour Azmat Usman to conduct an inquiry.
According to sources, the prime minister answered the questions of journalists in details and especially about the appointment of new Attorney General Buland Akhtar Rana during an iftar dinner given in the honour of representatives of the media on Thursday. The PTV telecast prime minister’s talks after editing and this made the premier angry.
Prime Minister Gilani directed to let people inform about the facts because they have the basic right to get access to the information. When the premier himself is giving details, it was inappropriate to send the talk for editing. Prime Minister Gilani summoned explanation on this issue and directed that people should not be kept unaware of the facts.
