Photojournalist and a columnist killed

Dr Abdus Samad Chishti Mujahid, photojournalists and a columnist working for the Urdu language weekly “Akhbar-e-Jehan”, was fatally shot on February 9, by a gunman in Quetta, the capital city of Balochistan province of Pakistan bordering Afghanistan. He was 55.

Dr. Mujahid was shot as he was coming out of his house with his wife. Mujahid received one bullet in the face and other near the chest. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a nationalist and separatist group has claimed responsibility for the killing. According to press reports, BLA spokesman Meerak Baloch telephoned the Quetta Press Club and said Dr Mujahid had been killed because he was working against the Baloch cause.

The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ) has strongly condemned the murder of a journalist, Chisti Mujahid.
