PFUJ for regulating grants from secret fund

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has asked the federal government to formally frame rules and regulations for making transparent the provision of funds/financial assistance to people in the name of journalists from the secret fund of the Ministry of Information.

Moreover, the names, amount and details, including the justification, of the people provided funds in the name of financial assistance by the Ministry of Information from 2001 to 2012 should be made public, it demanded.

According to a press release, several resolutions were passed in a meeting of the PFUJ central executive committee, which stated that the PFUJ stresses upon working in accordance with the rights and duties in line with the powers and responsibilities of the constitutional institutions.

The meeting felt that the constitutional institutions currently did not seem satisfied with their rights and responsibilities as well as limits and jurisdictions and are accusing each other of taking steps beyond their limits. It noted that with this trend, a strange impression is emerging about the spirit of the Constitution, supremacy of the law and civilised societies and their members so it is necessary that the constitutional institutions function within their limits and jurisdictions.

The meeting resolved that if any institution took any unconstitutional step through a conspiracy against the public aspirations and democratic institutions, the PFUJ would strongly oppose all such steps.
The PFUJ appreciated the regularisation of over 400 contract workers and daily wagers in the Associated Press of Pakistan and formal issuance of letters to them. It stressed that all people, who are working in media houses, newspapers and electronic media on contract for years, should also be regularised.
