PFUJ condemns murder of journalist in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) on Thursday condemned killing of journalist Ilyas Nazar in mysterious circumstances on Wednesday after being kidnapped about 10 days ago in Balochistan.

Terming the killing an act of barbarism, the PFUJ said it has almost been made impossible for media-persons in Balochistan to perform their professional assignments without fear. Ilyas Nazar 22, Copy Editor of a Balochi language magazine, was whisked away by unknown kidnappers on the night of Dec 28 when he was coming from Quetta to Turbat. His body was found on a derelict road of Pidrak of Turbat on Wednesday. The PFUJ said Pasni-based journalist Siddiq Eido, who had also been kidnapped by some unknown persons, was still missing.

Condemning the killing of Ilyas Nazar, the PFUJ Secretary General said, “Pakistan has already been declared one of the most dangerous country of the world for reporting by all leading journalist organizations and the highest number of media related workers were killed during 2010 in the whole world”. The PFUJ called for immediate arrest of killers of Ilyas Nazar. The PFUJ also demanded immediate recovery of kidnapped journalist Siddiq Eido.
