People enraged over closure of Aag telecast

KARACHI: People from different walks of life in all parts of the country have condemned the closure of Geo Super and Aag TV’s transmission by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) and demanded its immediate restoration.

People are of the view that after the Cricket World Cup, they have been deprived of the IPL matches. Geo Super had arranged for telecasting the cricket mega event, the IPL, but the government while settling personal scores closed its transmission. The management of Geo Super then decided to show the IPL matches through Aag TV to keep the interest alive among the cricket enthusiasts but Pemra at the behest of the government pressurised the cable operators to block this channel as well. AAG TV transmission is on air in some areas but the cable operators block it as soon as an IPL match starts and restore it after end of the match. This situation has created unrest among the cricket fans who said that under the present grim law and order situation and other host of problems the government is adding fuel to the fire by depriving the youth from the sources of entertainment like sports and music. They demanded of the government to stop repeated targeting of Geo/Jang group and stop inflicting huge financial losses on the organisation.

The cable operators have also condemned the blockage of Geo Super and AAG. They said after the ban on Geo Super, they were under pressure not to telecast Aag. They said those cable operators who resist the government pressure are being given threats.
