Pemra working transparently, in best interest of public
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has noticed that certain individuals and quarters are using its name to meet their own vested interests.
Pemra resolves that it is not and would not involve in any illegal, non-transparent and behind-the-scene activities regarding media or media persons, says a press release issued here on Thursday.
It says that they are also spreading this false perception as if Pemra has anything to do with the closure of programmes on TV channels or movement of the anchors from one TV channel to another. Pemra will keep all its words and actions open to public, it adds.
It says, “Pemra is accountable to Constitution, Parliament, law, judiciary and the general public for all its actions and has already adopted a transparent method to keep the public informed about all its decisions, advices, warnings, show cause notices, penalties, suspension of TV channel licences, or other proceedings of its various forums e.g. Authority or Council of Complaints meetings through social and mass media.”
“This practice has been initiated to keep Pemra’s decision-making process transparent and make Pemra accountable for all its actions. Therefore, any such perception about Pemra being spread by any quarter that it might be pulling strings behind-the-scene is wrong,” it adds.
The press release said, “Whatever action Pemra took or would take in future would be in public domain and through an open transparent and legal process.”
