‘Pemra should stop issuing notices to cable operators’

LAHORE: Cable Operators Association Chairman Khalid Arain has said Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) should stop issuing baseless show cause notices and fines to cable operators.

He said this while addressing the union office-bearers and cable operators at an Iftar-dinner Monday hosted by the association. He said had the cable operators not played their role, media would not have been the fourth pillar of Pakistani society. He said the government and Pemra should work to guard the interests of the cables operators and should act as facilitators instead of creating unnecessary problems for them.

He said the cable operators and their association have progressed in the past years which has not gone down well with certain factions and are thus playing a nagging role. He called for greater unity among the cable operators and advised them to self-regulate their business responsibly.
