Pemra not uplinking Geo Super despite payment of fee

KARACHI: Despite payment of $15,000 fee, provision of required information and completion of hearing, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulator Authority (Pemra) has not allowed uplinking of Geo Super from Pakistan.

The Pakistani sports fans are still deprived of watching the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches and other national and international sports competitions on their favourite sports channel Geo Super.

A spokesman for Geo TV Network said Geo Super had submitted an application with Pemra for uplinking the channel from Pakistan. He said the authority instead of granting the permission ordered not to uplink the channel and closed the transmission.

The spokesman said Pemra had asked for some information to decide on Geo Super’s application which was provided in the letters of April 6 and April 9. Pemra had also summoned the representative of Geo Super for personal hearing on April 11. The representative reached the Pemra office at the specified time where hearing was conducted. Geo Super also paid $15,000 fee but Pemra has not given permission for Geo Super’s up-linking from Pakistan.

It is to be mentioned here that keeping in view the enthusiasm of cricket fans in Pakistan, Geo Super had decided to show the IPL matches on Aag channel but Pemra had closed that channel as well.
