Pemra asks cable operators to shut Aag TV

ISLAMABAD: Continuing its vicious persecution campaign against the Jang and Geo Group, Pemra has now asked cable operators to shut down another Geo channel, Aag TV.

These Pemra orders were given verbally to cable operators to close the youth channel of Geo, which had planned to show the IPL cricket matches to the cricket loving people of Pakistan after its sports channel, Geo Super, was shut down.

However, not all cable operators have followed the verbal instructions and some have asked Pemra to send the orders in writing. Pemra struck the Jang Group within days with this new ban on Aag TV after it denied the people of Pakistan to see the IPL cricket matches through their most popular Geo Sports channel. Geo had announced recently that it would make arrangements to screen these matches on Aag TV because Geo Super had been closed. But now Pemra is trying to shut this channel as well.

The Pemra strategy follows instructions by the government to financially damage Geo and Jang Group so that its freedom of speech could be curtailed and the group could be blackmailed into submission.

This government strategy to damage the Jang Group has been going on for months as Jang and Geo have been denied government advertisements to cripple them. Geo, meanwhile, has been closed several times by the government and several licences have been withheld by the government. The strategy to financially hurt the Group continues.
